Unlocking locked doors

“Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing, that we see too late the one that is open.” - Alexander Graham Bell

*Then what do we do about locked doors?*

Today one of my housemates has locked her room from the inside. So she can't get in since she left the key inside the room as well..so as housemates, we tried to help her unlock her own room. I've unlocked my own room before, so I tried using the sliding card method. It was hard since her door is very different from mine. The lock hole isn't done properly, so I ended up reaching the other side of the wall and peeled off the door frame. It takes time to get the card in but still to no success.

Then one of us tried google-ing around and found a rather brilliant method. So I thought I should share with you this interesting bit of information so that in future, if u locked your room up. Then at least you know what to do =)

Things you need:
- Dental floss
- A piece of paper
- Twisted wire
- A thin,long rope or a long cable
(Ethernet wire works perfectly well)

This is how you do it:
1. Attach the paper to the floss.
2. Attach the twisted wire to the paper.
3. Slide the paper in at the upper slit of the door till it reach the floor.
4. Grab the twisted wire and get the floss to come out from the lower slit of the door.
5. Take the floss and tie the cable/rope.
6. Pull the floss back up so the cable will be hung on the door knob.
7. Jerk the left cable so the door knob will automatically twist to open from the inside.

and...Tadaaa~ the door is open!

But of course there are much simple way that this, like using a hair pin for example. Either way works perfectly fine. I particularly like this method because we can actually open the door from the inside without having the key.

I finally got the door knob to jerk off and the door helplessly gave in. Everybody was overjoyed because a lot of effort and time were spent to unlock it. It was definitely worth the wait. My housemate quickly grabs her room key and hung it outside her room so that the same mistakes don't reoccur again.

It was a fun day!

Stress 101

Stress is one of the most common things in life.
It's either a +ve stress or -ve stress.

Good stress brings motivations whilst bad stress could lead to depression.
Is "stress" to be blamed on?

No..oh no,no..
Stress isn't a the major problem here,
the problem comes from how individuals cope with it.

Let's talk about it's origin:
STRESS = Comes from Pyhsics! (suprising isn't it?)
It means to excerpt a force on an object.

In physiological terms it means:
Human's reaction on demands in both pleasant and unpleasant situations. =)

So what appropriate ways to deal with stress?
Here are some guidelines:

1. Know ur own stress signals.
Early signs include irritation, gaining or lossing weight, smoking, drinking and insomnia

2. Listen to ur body's demands
In need of a nutritious food and good exercise.
Exercising maintains a stress free environment and it keeps ur mind off from the stressful life.

3. Make plans and act when appropriate
Direct the stress energy to plan a step ahead.
This reduces the sense of worrying too much other than weakens the original cause of stress.

4. Cope with situations that are out of control.
Need to just accept things inevitably.
For example, in a heavy traffic you need to be patient and wait till ur turn to move.

5. Pace activity.
Try breaking a big task into smaller portions.
24 hours isn't feasible enough to complete it.
Small steps makes it less stressful other than having a nice progress on the task given.
It also helps u to keep track on ur task.

Hope it helps =)

An amazing discovery.

As I was reading my materials for Maths 310, I discovered that the Romans were super intelligent on the conquest of dividing and conquering the world but were extremely idiotic when it comes to counting livestock and sack of grains. The Romans did ABSOLUTEY nothing in Mathematics!

When a Roman could not avoid calculations then he would resolve to an abacus and write the results in Roman numerals which were cumbersome and clumsy looking. This was illustrate in one of the ancient inscription of -260 whereby the number 2, 300, 000 was represented by 23 copies of the same symbol that represents 100, 000.

I had the laugh of my life.
